Welcome to the IEEE Certified Biometrics Professional™(CBP) Learning System. Whether you are interested in professional development or earning the CBP designation, you will find the program to be a complete, easy-to-use learning and reference tool.
This course allows you to work at your own pace to increase your understanding of biometric concepts. It includes six printed textbooks (called modules), which correspond to the knowledge domains tested on the CBP examination. The course also includes online testing and practice components. Course Components

Upon completion of the course, complete the Program Evaluation (from the Resource Center) then request your Letter of Completion.
1. Tests
The CBP Learning System includes a number of tests to help guide your study. Click on any of the following to learn more.
Pre-test
Begin the course by completing the pre-test. The pre-test measures your current knowledge of biometrics. It consists of 50 questions covering all six modules of the course.
After you answer each pre-test question, you will know immediately whether your answer is correct or incorrect. If your answer is incorrect, the correct answer is provided. Feedbacks for pre-test questions also provide the reasoning for the correct answer to help clarify your understanding. Timing allows you to determine if you are on track to complete the certification exam in the time allotted. If you leave the test, you can re-enter it and will have the option to either continue or restart the test.
After you finish the pre-test, you may view a report that shows your overall pre-test score and your score broken down by each module. You may use your pre-test score to help determine where to place emphasis during your studies.
Module quizzes
After you have read and studied each module, return to the online tests and complete that module’s quiz. The number of question in each module quiz varies and addresses content specific to that module. Note that module 6 is a capstone module and may include the application of content found in other modules.
After you answer each module question, you will know immediately whether your answer is correct or incorrect. If your answer is incorrect, the correct answer is provided. Feedbacks for the questions also provide the reasoning for the correct answer to help clarify your understanding. Timing allows you to determine if you are on track to complete the certification exam in the time allotted.
If you leave a quiz, you can re-enter it and will have the option to either continue or restart.
Post-test
When you have completed your studies and feel confident of your understanding and skills, take the online post-test. The post-test consists of 150 questions covering the course content across all modules. Post-test questions are unique and have not been seen in other tests.
After you answer each post-test question, you will know immediately whether your answer is correct or incorrect. If your answer is incorrect, the correct answer is provided. Feedbacks for post-test questions also provide the reasoning for the correct answer to help clarify your understanding. Timing allows you to determine if you are on track to complete the certification exam in the time allotted. If you leave the test, you can re-enter it and will have the option to either continue or restart the test.
After you finish the post-test, you may view a report that compares your pre-test score and post-test scores.
CBP Practice Exam
Prior to sitting for the CBP exam or to just review what you have learned, select the CBP Practice Exam option. This selection allows you to see and answer 150 questions related to all modules.
The format and functionality of the practice exam emulates the software used at the Prometric testing center. As such, it has the same marking and review features offered at the testing site.
As with the CBP exam, you must complete the exam in one sitting and you do not receive instructive feeback.
2. Self-study printed modules
The six self-directed print modules correspond to the domains addressed in the CBP body of knowledge and tested by the CBP examination.

- Module 4: Biometrics Standards
- Module 5: Social, Cultural, and Legal Implications
- Module 6: Biometrics Applications
Read and study the sections of each module and answer the progress check questions included at the end of each section. It is recommended that you work through the self-directed module before attempting the related online module quiz.
3. Flashcards
Flashcards provide an interactive drill-and-practice review option across modules. Flashcards present a definition of a term, and you supply the term. Flashcards can be completed online and a printable version is also available.
4. Reports
At any time, you may view an online report of your progress by selecting Reports. These reports shows your most recent pre-test, module quiz, and post-test scores. You can use these reports to determine where you may have areas of strength or weakness to direct further studying of the course.
4. Resource Center
At any time, you can view the resource center to select various support tools such as a composite printable copy of the module bibliographies.
5. Glossary
At any time, you may view an online course glossary by selecting Glossary. Click a letter in the bar at the top of the glossary window to see the words beginning with that letter. The glossary includes terms defined in the modules. These definitions are consistent with the NSTC glossary.
The Glossary Quick Search feature at the bottom of the side bar allows you to enter a term and see its definition.
